Caramel Sauce

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup heavy cream

In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and water and bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Continue until the mixture becomes a thin syrup with a deep caramel color between 10-15 minutes.  Remove from the heat. Slowly add the cream in a steady stream, being careful not to allow he mixture to splash. Return the mixture to the stovetop and boil the sauce until it regains the consistency of a thick syrup, about 2 minutes.
